Your child will remember how you made them feel.

This song, which I first heard performed by the talented Ohad Shragai on the show "Kochav Nolad," tightened my stomach.

I think everyone finds something in this song.

The child they once were, the parent they are, their own child, or some child they know who has experienced a similar situation.

As parents, we don’t really know if we’re there enough.

If we show enough love, express pride, give enough hugs.

Amid the race of time, making a living, managing the household, personal aspirations,

and all the other circles of life, we don’t always know how our child feels about our parenting.

How they perceive us as human beings.

And then comes an age when something shifts—adolescence changes our children’s perception of us.

They examine us with different eyes. Sometimes there’s criticism and difficult feelings.

Sometimes, if we’re lucky, there’s love, respect, appreciation, and gratitude.

A child doesn’t remember what you did for them; they remember how you made them feel.

Check how you make your child feel.

It will come back to you on that day when they grow up and look at you with mature eyes.

Hey / Ilai Botner

And you didn’t have big dreams

Only fear

Only failures upon failures

And a house about to fall

A house about to fall

And you remember your childhood and what was there

The pain, the humiliations

It’s like dying and continuing to live

Like dying and continuing to live

Hey

There’s a child who needs you at home

To dream and close their eyes

And a mother who watches over only them

Hey

You never said if you’re proud of me

Another song hides what I never had

Hold my hand

Don’t leave

And to paint the court, to find a bicycle

To ride to the road in the rain

To see if you’ve already come back to me

When will you come back to me?

What are you keeping inside your stomach?

Only memories upon memories

And a house about to collapse

A house about to collapse

Hey

There’s a child who needs you at home

To dream and close their eyes

And a mother who watches over only them

Hey

You never said if you’re proud of me

Another song hides what I never had

Hold my hand

Don’t leave

Hey

There’s a child who needs you at home

To dream and close their eyes

And a mother who watches over only them

Hey

You never said if you’re proud of me

Another song hides what I never had

Hold my hand

Don’t leave
