๐น Starting this coming July, all electric bicycle and scooter riders will be required to have a driving license and wear helmets with reflective elements. The license can be obtained after passing a theory test conducted at one of the 45 existing theory test centers. A source in the Ministry of Transportation told 'Bizness': Riders without a license will be prosecuted.
Starting July 1st, Monday, the 28th of Sivan, electric bicycle and scooter riders will be required to pass a theory test. A source in the Ministry of Transportation told 'Bizness' that according to the legislative amendments, "the sanction for riding without a permit or license is prosecution."
The theory test will be "on any motorized vehicle" or "a dedicated test for electric bicycles and scooters." The Ministry of Transportation also noted that starting July 1st, electric bicycle and scooter riders will be required to wear helmets with reflective elements.
It should be noted that the Israel Police can fine a young person riding an electric bicycle or scooter against the law, who is under the age of 16, with a fine of 1,000 shekels.
According to the decision of the Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, starting July 2019, riding electric bicycles or motorized scooters will be prohibited for those who do not have a driving license or have not successfully passed a regular theory test or a dedicated riding test.
๐ธ As part of the changes in the field, starting December 2, 2018, it has been possible to take the dedicated theory test adapted for riders, in order to obtain the riding competency approval.
โฆ The updated theory test includes a new grade (A3) and consists of 30 professional questions related to proper riding, road usage, and traffic laws.
As mentioned, only those who successfully pass the test will receive the competency approval for riding electric bicycles and motorized scooters.
This decision is part of the comprehensive national program submitted about a month and a half ago by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Transportation and adopted by the government, to coordinate the activities of all ministries and bodies dealing with the issue of unregistered motorized vehicles, including legislative and administrative amendments.
